SINCE 1980 BLACK FAMILY INCOME GAINS DURING THE AGE OF SUPPLY SIDE

How often have you heard “Reagan was bad for black people” and the “Republican agenda is bad for minorities.”  The facts do not bear this out.  According to the Census Bureau, since 1980 black family incomes have risen on average 44%, compared to 38% for white families and 28% for Hispanics.  Black women’s income having made the fastest gains any group.  In 2005, the Associated Press  reported the Census Bureau findings:

A white woman with a bachelor’s degree typically earned nearly $37,800 in 2003, compared with nearly $43,700 for a college-educated Asian woman and $41,100 for a college-educated black woman, according to data being released Monday by the Census Bureau. Hispanic women took home slightly less at $37,600 a year.

The reason for these gains are not that the Republicans policy caused black achievement, but that the tax cut and pro-business format allowed Americans to have more money to spend on talented people of any race!  One of the 1970’s major players in supply side economics was Jude Wanniski, who was hired in 1962 by the editor of the Washington Observer by “an editor who had been trolling the nation for new talent.”  He was picked on by the papers other people because they thought he was some weird immigrant from Eastern Europe, but he eventually prevailed.

This is the American story!
